Epoxy - AER 103TX

The AER 103T is a hot melt towpreg that utilizes a toughened, controlled flow epoxy resin system. It is solvent-free and offers simple and flexible processing with moderate tack and drape characteristics. A key feature is its excellent damage tolerance, making it specifically suitable for filament winding applications.

Core Properties & Applications

  • Glass Transition Temperature (Tg): The cured resin achieves a high Tg of 160°C.
  • Cure Temperature: The standard curing temperature is 130°C (266°F).
  • Density: Cured Resin Density is 1.23 g/cc.
  • Primary Applications: The material is primarily used for robust, high-performance structures like Composite pressure vessels and Rocket motor casings.

Mechanical Performance (T700-12K Laminate)

The resin system provides excellent mechanical properties, highlighted by the following values for T700-12K prepreg:

  • Tensile Strength: 2,170 MPa.
  • Tensile Modulus: 130 GPa.
  • Compression Strength: 1,220 MPa.
  • Flexural Strength: 1,370 MPa.

Storage and Processing Guidelines

  • Shelf Life: The product has a shelf life of 12 months when stored at the recommended temperature of −18°C (0°F).
  • Out Life: It boasts a long out life at room temperature, lasting up to 60 days at 22°C.

Cure Cycle

The standard cure involves heating up from Room Temperature (RT) to 130°Cat a rate of 2°C /min. The material is then held at 130°C for a dwell time of 1 hour, followed by cooling at a rate of less than 1°C /min.

Post-Cure Cycle

For optimal properties, a post-cure can be applied, involving a ramp up from RT to 140°Cat 2∘C/min. The temperature is then held at 140°C for hours, with cooling at less than 1∘C/min.
